Live-Action Gundam Movie To Star Sydney Sweeney & Noah Centineo

Production is now underway on a live-action adaptation of Gundam, with filming taking place in Queensland, Australia. The film is being directed by Jim Mickle, known for projects like Sweet Tooth and Cold in July. Rather than retelling an existing storyline, the movie will introduce an original narrative set during a prolonged conflict between Earth and its space-based colonies. At the center are two rival pilots on opposing sides of the war, whose paths begin to converge as alliances shift and a larger threat emerges.

Like its source material, the film will lean heavily into large-scale mech combat while also focusing on the human stories behind the machines. The premise blends interstellar warfare with more personal stakes, as the characters are drawn into a conflict that could determine the future of humanity.

The cast brings together a mix of established and rising talent. Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo lead the film, joined by a lineup that includes Jason Isaacs, Shioli Kutsuna, Michael Mando, Nonso Anozie, Javon Walton, Jackson White, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Ida Brooke, and Gemma Chua-Tran.

The project is being developed for Netflix and is produced by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks, the studio behind much of Gundam’s original content. Mickle is also producing alongside his creative partner Linda Moran through their banner Nightshade, with additional producers including Cale Boyter, Ali Mendes, Sweeney, Centineo, and Enzo Marc. Executive producers include Matthew Jenkins, Makoto Asanuma, and Naohiro Ogata.

With cameras now rolling, the film represents a major moment for Gundam, a franchise that has shaped the mech genre for decades. This adaptation aims to bring that legacy to a global live-action audience, combining massive robotic battles with a story built around conflict, loyalty, and survival on a galactic scale.
