One of the most highly anticipated robots in the world is Tesla’s Optimus 3. A new post from Elon Musk is fueling fresh discussion around Tesla’s humanoid robot program, after the billionaire revealed that the latest version of Optimus is already walking.
In a recent update on X, Musk said that “Optimus 3 is walking around” but added that the robot still needs “finishing touches” before it is ready to be publicly shown.
The brief comment offers one of the clearest signals yet that Optimus continues to progress beyond controlled demos and toward more autonomous movement. While Tesla has previously showcased earlier versions of the robot performing basic tasks, real-world walking capability has been a key milestone for the program.
Optimus is part of Tesla’s broader push into robotics and AI, with Musk repeatedly positioning the humanoid platform as a future cornerstone of the company’s business. The robot is designed to handle repetitive or dangerous tasks, particularly in manufacturing and logistics environments, though Musk has also suggested long-term consumer applications.
The mention of “finishing touches” suggests that while hardware and mobility are advancing, Tesla may still be refining areas such as balance, dexterity, or AI control systems before a wider reveal. Tesla has a history of iterative robot updates, often unveiling new capabilities in stages rather than fully polished products.
Musk’s update, while short on technical detail, reinforces the idea that Tesla is moving closer to a more capable and potentially scalable humanoid robot. If Optimus 3 is already walking in internal testing, a more public demonstration could follow once those final refinements are complete.
