Tesla officially expanded its unsupervised Robotaxi service into Dallas and Houston, Texas. The announcement, which first surfaced via the official @robotaxi account on X, marks the first major expansion of the service in Texas beyond its initial testing grounds in Austin. This move signals Tesla’s confidence in its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology.
While Austin served as the primary incubator for the driverless fleet, Dallas and Houston offer a different scale of challenge. Houston’s sprawling highway network and Dallas’s intricate downtown grid provide the ultimate “stress test” for Tesla’s vision-only AI system. Unlike traditional ride-hailing services, these Robotaxis operate without a human safety monitor behind the wheel. Users in select geofenced areas of both cities can now summon a vehicle directly through the Tesla app, mirroring the seamless experience promised for years.
If the Dallas and Houston launches prove successful, it probably won’t be long before Tesla expands into other major metropolitan areas. For now, Texas remains at the center of this transition as the technology moves toward becoming a daily reality for commuters.
